How verdicts are worked out, how duels work, and everything else people ask.
Verdicts
What is Powerscale?
A "who would win" site built on the VS Battles Wiki. Pick any two of thousands of characters from anime, comics, games and films and see who the stats favor. Then argue about it on the Board or under the matchup, duel other people on the verdicts, or run a tournament.
Where do the stats come from?
From each character's page on the VS Battles Wiki: its Tier, Attack Potency, Speed and Durability, for every form the page lists, plus its powers and abilities.
Powerscale doesn't write or change stats. If one looks wrong, it's the same on the wiki, and a fix there shows up here the next time that series is updated. Powerscale is an independent fan project, not part of the VS Battles Wiki; its content is used under CC BY-SA.
How is the verdict worked out?
The four stats are compared side by side. Attack Potency counts most (35%), then Durability and Speed (25% each), then Tier (15%). A bigger gap counts for more, up to a point, and the weighted total decides who's favored and by how much:
- Overwhelming favorite ~90%+
- Clear favorite ~80%
- Favored ~65%
- Slight edge ~55%
- Too close to call a toss-up
It's an estimate from the stats, not a real probability. A stat the wiki lists as Unknown isn't compared. With fewer than two comparable stats there's no verdict at all, and with any stat missing the verdict can't go past "Clear favorite".
Which form does a matchup use?
The form with the highest Tier (if several share it, the first one the wiki lists), unless you pick another: on a matchup, tap a form under either character. The link keeps your choice, so you can share that exact fight. Random duel rounds use the default forms; a matchup you pick for a duel keeps the forms you chose.
Are abilities and hax counted?
No. Time stop, instant death, reality warping, regeneration and the like show as flags on the matchup, but only the four stats decide the score. That's the usual reason a verdict feels wrong in a fight hax would decide, and what overrules are for.
One exception: when a page says a character's attack power comes from magic, a Stand or reality warping, that stronger value is the one scored.
I think a verdict is wrong. What can I do?
Send a ticket from the matchup page, in the box under the verdict: say who you think wins and why. Admins read every ticket. If they agree, they overrule the verdict; it's posted on the Board and credited to you on your profile.
You can send one ticket per matchup (each pair of forms counts as its own matchup). Spamming tickets can get you blocked from sending them.
What's an overrule?
An admin's decision that replaces the calculator's verdict for one matchup, usually one that abilities decide. It shows as "X wins — overruled by admins" with the admin's reason, the calculator's own estimate stays visible under it, and it's posted to the Board. Duels go by overrules too.
A character or series is missing.
Characters are added series by series, and more are on the way. Ask for one in #suggestions on our Discord.
Duels
How do prediction duels work?
Everyone gets the same five matchups, one at a time, with 20 seconds each, and calls who the site says wins (the calculator's verdict, or an admin's overrule). Most right answers wins. Only matchups with a clear winner are used, never "too close to call".
Play 1v1, free-for-alls of up to four, or teams (2v2, 2v2v2, 3v3), where teammates' answers add up. The creator can pick up to five matchups themselves; the rest are drawn at random from characters of similar tiers.
How does draft work?
Each round, everyone is dealt four characters of similar tiers and picks the one they think is strongest. Each pick then fights every opponent's pick, and every fight won is a point. When the site calls a fight too close to call, whoever locked in faster wins it (marked "faster pick").
In the results, a gold ring marks each player's pick and a star the strongest character in their hand. Tap a fight to open it, or any card to see that character.
What's the gauntlet?
One character against a ladder of up to ten ever-stronger opponents, weakest first. It fights them in order and stops at its first loss; a fight too close to call ends the run too, since a gauntlet takes clear wins. The result is how many it beat.
Opponents come from the whole roster (one from each tenth of the site by Tier, so rung 1 is among the weakest characters and rung 10 among the strongest), from one series' best-known characters, or from your own picks. Try it on the Gauntlet page, or from any character's page.
In a gauntlet duel there are three gauntlets. You call each fight as it comes (does it beat the next opponent?) and see the result right away; each gauntlet ends at its first loss. A right "beats them" is worth 1 point, and calling the knockout (the fight it loses) is worth 3: spotting where a character falls is the hard part. Calling a knockout that doesn't happen costs 2, so only call one when you think it really loses. 15 seconds a call. Level scores go to whoever answered faster in total.
Do I have to play right away?
No, everyone plays in their own time; only each round's 20 seconds are live. A game still waiting for players expires after 7 days. Once it's full and someone has finished, the others have 72 hours, and rounds they didn't play count as wrong.
How do I challenge a friend?
On any matchup, open Share → Challenge a friend: it makes a duel with that matchup in it and gives you a link to send. Or, on the Duels page, choose Friends with the link when you create a game, for any mode or format. These games aren't listed or posted on Discord, so only people you send the link to can join (in one tap).
Already on Powerscale? Tap Challenge on their profile to invite them by name; it shows up on their Duels page.
How is the leaderboard ranked?
By wins, then fewest losses, then most draws. The week's best players are posted on our Discord every Monday.
Discord
Is there a Discord server?
Yes: join it here. It gets a matchup of the day poll at 17:00 (Budapest time), admin overrules as they happen, finished duels, open games looking for players, the Monday leaderboard and site updates.
What can the Powerscale app do?
Add it to any server, or to your own account to use it anywhere:
/comparethe verdict on two characters, forms optional/charactera character's stats and forms/randoma random close matchup/leaderboardthe top duel players/profileanyone's Powerscale profile (or right-click a user → Apps → Powerscale profile)/linkconnect your Discord to your account/duelstart a duel, or challenge someone
Can I get a Discord role for my Powerscale stats?
Yes, in servers that set one up. Server owners add a role under Server Settings → Roles → Links, pick Powerscale and a requirement: at least so many duel wins or approved overrules, the weekly champion, or a founder.
To claim one, open the server's name → Linked Roles, pick Powerscale and sign in. That also connects your Discord to your Powerscale account. Your roles update as you win duels.
How do I connect my Discord?
Type /link. The app gives you a private link that works once, for 15 minutes; open it while logged in here and confirm. Your profile then shows your Discord, and /profile in Discord shows your Powerscale account. To keep them apart, untick "Show it on my public profile" in Profile settings, or disconnect there.
Your account
Do I need an account?
Not to browse, compare or run tournaments. You need one to post on the Board, comment on matchups, play duels, send tickets and save a favorite character.
How do I earn titles?
Titles show next to your name on the Board, in comments, in duels and on your profile. You earn them by:
- Winning duels: Rookie (1 win), Challenger (5), Contender (10), Fighter (25), Veteran (50), Champion (100), Elite (200), Master (300), Grandmaster (500), Mythic (750) and Legend (1,000).
- Getting overrule suggestions approved: Scout (1), Analyst (5), Arbiter (15) and Oracle (30).
- Topping the weekly duel leaderboard: Weekly Champion, held until the next week's #1.
- Being early: the first 100 accounts are Founders.
Your rarest title shows automatically. To show a different one, or none, pick it in Profile settings. Your profile shows every title you've earned and how close you are to the next.
How do I delete my account?
In Profile settings, under Danger zone. It removes your profile and picture, your posts (with their replies), your replies and likes, your comments, your tickets, and the duels you played in (they can't be scored without you). It can't be undone.
